Background

Located in Cranbourne East, Casey Fields is one of Victoria’s most significant regional sport and recreation precincts, supporting elite competition, community clubs, schools, events and informal recreation. Its role is increasingly important as the City of Casey experiences rapid population growth, a young and culturally diverse population, and rising demand for accessible and inclusive sporting infrastructure. To better understand and communicate the precinct’s significance, the City of Casey commissioned an Economic and Social Impact Assessment of Casey Fields.

Project Goals

The project aimed to establish a robust, evidence-based baseline of the economic and social value generated by Casey Fields in its current form. This included quantifying its contribution to employment, regional economic activity and visitor expenditure, while assessing the broader benefits associated with physical activity, health and wellbeing, participation, inclusion, social connection and regional identity.

REMPLAN’s Involvement

REMPLAN was commissioned to undertake the economic and social impact assessment and develop a clear, communication-ready account of the precinct’s value. The work combined precinct participation, attendance, employment, expenditure and operational data with economic impact modelling, visitor expenditure analysis and a quantified social benefit assessment. REMPLAN also examined the precinct’s wider community outcomes and prepared reporting materials to support Council communications, stakeholder engagement, advocacy and future investment discussions.

Results

The assessment demonstrated that Casey Fields is critical social, recreational and economic infrastructure for the City of Casey and Greater Melbourne. The precinct supports local employment, visitor expenditure and broader economic activity, while delivering significant benefits through sport participation, physical activity, health and wellbeing, inclusion, volunteering and community connection. The findings provide Council with a strong evidence base to communicate the precinct’s value, support future investment and guide its continued development as demand for use of the precinct continues to grow.
