REMPLAN Data Update – March 2018 Unemployment Rate

We are pleased to advise you that all public-access REMPLAN Economy and Community profiles have now been updated with the latest area-specific unemployment rate data (March Quarter 2018). This data has recently been released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the Department of Jobs and Small Business.

Over the year to March 2018 unemployment decreased in the majority of  local government areas, with 61% recording a fall in their unemployment rate (compared to 59% over the year to the March 2017 quarter). Large falls were recorded across the following local government areas:

  • Towong (VIC),
  • Campbelltown (NSW),
  • Palm Island (QLD),
  • Maralinga Tjarutja (SA),
  • Northam (WA), and
  • George Town (TAS).

A number of areas recorded rising unemployment, including:

  • Loddon (VIC),
  • Wentworth (NSW),
  • Burke (QLD),
  • Copper Coast (SA),
  • Collie (WA), and
  • Burnie (TAS).

State level data shows a rise in unemployment over the year to March across most states, with South Australia the only state to record a fall.
