REMPLAN Major Data Updates

REMPLAN was originally part of La Trobe University’s Economic Research Unit where pioneering work was undertaken in the field of regional economic analysis.  In 2006 REMPLAN was spun off from the University as a private company and since then has organised and systematised the process of building and updating area-specific economic and demographic datasets for regions across Australia.

These regions include:

  • local government areas
  • activity centres
  • growth areas
  • planning areas
  • townships
  • federal and state electorates
  • regions
  • catchments
  • renewal energy zones
  • states and territories
  • nation.

In recent years we have been working with state government departments across NSW, NT, QLD, SA, VIC and WA, delivering and maintaining datasets for all local government areas and government regions.

The updating of datasets is a rolling process that responds to releases of new data from key agencies including:

  • Australian Bureau of Statistics
  • Department of Employment and Small Business
  • Tourism Research Australia.

The latest ‘2018 Release 1’ economic data delivered via REMPLAN Economy (software and public profiles) incorporates the following data:

  • 2016 Census Place of Work Employment
  • 2015 / 2016 National Input-Output (I-O) tables
  • 2016 / 2017 Tourism Satellite Account
  • June 2018 Gross State Product (new)

According to the ABS Gross State Product increased from 2017 to 2018 in all states. The percentage increase in each state is shown in the image below:

Following recent releases of data by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the REMPLAN team are now busy working on significant data updates incorporating the following latest National Accounts data:

  • 2016 / 2017 National Input-Output (I-O) tables
  • 2017 / 2018 Tourism Satellite Account

Subscribers to REMPLAN will receive the updated datasets at no additional cost.

The team at REMPLAN are here to respond to any questions regarding data updates, as well as upcoming releases of ABS National Accounts data later in the year. We are also available to provide REMPLAN training and management briefings on your area’s economy.
