  • What is our participation rate?
  • Are average hours worked in our area increasing or decreasing?

The reports are available for immediate download for local government areas across Australia, allowing for benchmarking and comparative analysis.

The SALF reports provide the detailed insights from the ABS Labour Force Survey, at the smaller LGA level of the National Skills Commission Small Area Labour Market (SALM) data.

The reports are published quarterly to provide regular local government area-specific updates into the employed and unemployed, youth unemployment rates, female and male workforce participation, changes in industry sector employment, assessment of ongoing underemployment, understanding of long-term unemployment, and a range of other measures. Benchmark data is also provided.

Each report provides access to 10 years of data for a selected local government area.  The report is in two parts, a pdf document providing a summary including infographics, which is accompanied by an Excel spreadsheet with detailed data.  The reports provide:

An industry by gender breakdown for:

  • Full time and part time employment
  • Full time and part time hours worked
  • Participation rates and underemployment

An age by gender breakdown for:

  • Full time and part time employment
  • Full time and part time hours worked
  • Unemployment
  • Number in labour force, not in labour force and participation rates

Total numbers for:

  • Short, medium and long-term unemployment

Understanding ongoing changes in your local economy in terms of working residents, and those actively seeking work, provides critical input to service delivery,  strategy and policy development.
